16 May Preparing Your Cat for Pet Boarding
Going out of town? Cannot take your feline friend? You will need to make sure your cat is properly cared for. The professionals at Woofs and Wags Pet Lodge provide excellent pet boarding options for your cat. Having a safe and friendly place that will care for your pet will help eliminate some of your anxiety regarding vacation plans.
Preparing Your Cat for an Overnight Stay
If this is the first time your cat has been boarded, or if your cat is generally anxious or needs additional reassurance, there are some things you can do to help ease your pet into its new, temporary routine.
Be sure to visit the facility prior to leaving your cat. Your feline buddy is part of your family, so you want to make sure the facility is clean and safe. Before boarding your cat, go to the boarding facility and look around. Some things to look out for include:
- Is the facility clean?
- Are litter boxes cleaned properly?
- Is there a space outside the crate or kennel for the cats to play?
- Is the staff friendly?
- Are the cat kennels separate from the dog kennels?
- Do they have cameras you can access to view your kitty?
In addition, ask if you can schedule a trial stay. If you are going on an extended vacation and worry how your pet will do in lodging, schedule a night or two prior to your trip to see how the cat responds. You can also start to crate your cat at home. Get a crate and use it prior to your trip to help your cat get used to being in a kennel. This will make it less stressful on your pet when placed in outside lodging. Make a list of things your cat will need at lodging including medications, toys, and favorite bedding. Once you are away, call to check on your cat. This can give you peace of mind knowing your feline friend is being taken care of.
