Prepare Your Dog for the Fall Season

As the weather starts to cool, it is time to pay attention to your dog’s changing grooming needs. While you may have a standard schedule for dog grooming in Baltimore City, there are a few things that you need to add to it to make sure your dog is ready for autumn. With each changing season, you have to be ready to tend to the new needs of your pet and pay attention to some of the damage that hot, dry summer heat may have left behind.

End of Summer Care for Your Pet

One of the biggest issues as all arises is the development of chapped and cracked dog paws. Dogs walk a lot of their feet in the dry heat, and the same way that you may have cracked heels by the end of the summer, your pet may have some cracking as well. Start by checking your dog’s paws, and if you notice any cracks you will want to apply some Vaseline. You can also purchase paw pad balm if you want something that is a bit less greasy. Keep in mind that if the cracks are deep then you need to place some ointment in the cracks, wrap the paw, and then let a vet take a look.

As the season starts to change many dogs develop allergies, which can then lead to hot spots or rashes that scab and start to ooze. Allergies can be a big issue during the fall months, so don’t take any signs of a rash lightly. If you suspect your pet has a rash, they should always be seen by a veterinarian. Allergic reactions can affect the fur coat of a dog, but this isn’t the only problem that dogs have to place during fall. Dogs usually shed their summer coat as well, so you need to start combing your dog regularly to get the dead hair out. You also might want to consider adding a color shampoo, coat spray, or fish oil supplements to their daily regime to help rejuvenate their fur. Looking for more help keep your dog looking sharp?
